What is the structure of Rolando Little League?

Rolando Little League is a community-based organization serving boys and girls between the ages of 4 and 12 years old. The league was established in 1953, and is an all- volunteer, non-profit organization.

Rolando Little League offers 5 divisions of baseball: T-Ball, Rookies, Caps, Minors, and Majors.

• The T-Ball Division is comprised of mainly 4 and 5 year olds.
• The Rookies Division is comprised of mainly 6 year olds.
• The Caps Division is comprised of mainly 7 and 8 year olds.
• The Minors Division is comprised of mainly 9 and 10 year olds.
• The Majors Division is comprised of mainly 11 and 12 year olds.

Rolando uses guidelines as prescribed by the official Little League baseball organization for Age Requirements to ensure players develop appropriately in terms of skills, knowledge, and sportsmanship. For help in determining your player's "league age", please visit our Age Requirement page.

Depending upon the division level, the playing fields are slightly different in terms of length of base paths, distance from pitching mound, and distance to the outfield fences from home plate.

What are the League Boundaries?

A player is eligible to play in Rolando Little League if he/she lives, or attends school, within the League Boundaries.

If We Move Out of the League Boundaries, Can My Player Continue To Play in the League?

Players must reside, or attend school, within the League Boundaries. However, if your player no longer lives or attends school within the boundaries, but previously played in Rolando Little League, you may continue to play in Rolando after you move, provided that your player registers the following season. If there is an interruption of play, the player would need to register in the new league where they live, or attend school. If you have moved since the last season, please contact the Player Agent using the information found on the Board of Directors page to determine your player's eligibility.

When Does the Spring Baseball Season Begin?

Spring Baseball registration begins in early December. Tryouts for Caps, Minors and Majors Divisions are held in January. Practices begin in early February. Opening Day for the season is in early March. The season runs from March through June, including Division Playoff games for Minors and Majors teams. Players between the ages of 9 and 12 may be selected for an All Star Team. Tournament games for the All Stars Teams take place in July.

When Will I Find Out My Player's Team Assignment?

Players in Caps, Minors, and Majors Divisions will be evaluated in mid-January, followed by a team draft. This process promotes a more even distribution of skill levels and results in a more balanced and competitive league. Once teams are assigned, the team manager will contact you. If you have not heard from your manager before the end of the first week in February, please contact the Player Agent using the information found on the Board of Directors page.

When, Where, and How Long are Team Practices?

Teams generally begin practicing in early February. During the preseason, lower division teams usually practice 1-2 times per week, for approximately one hour, while upper division teams usually practice 2-4 times per week for approximately 2 hours. Once games begin, there are generally fewer practices scheduled. Teams practice at the Rolando fields, as well as at other designated field locations in the area.

What Days and Times are the Games Played?

Teams typically have 2-3 games per week, Monday through Saturday. Weekday games generally begin at 5pm. Saturday games are generally scheduled between the hours of 8am and 4pm.

Where are the Baseball Games Played?

Rolando Little League has three fields. The upper field is used for mainly Rookies and Caps games. The lower field is used for Minors and Majors games. King St. field is used mainly for T-Ball and Rookies. Please visit our Field Location page for our address and map location.

What Equipment is Required?

Each player will be given a team jersey and baseball hat. The manager will determine the color of players' pants, socks, and belt. These items must be purchased individually. Players also need to have a glove (leather is highly recommended), rubber cleats (no steel spikes allowed), helmet, bat (with USA Baseball logo), and a protective cup. The league will provide all other necessary equipment. However, if you choose to purchase catcher's gear for your player, please be sure to first view the Approved Equipment page to insure that the specific items are allowed for use.

Who Umpires the Games?

Major and Minor league regular season games are umpired primarily by a 3rd party service. All volunteer umpires are required to attend an Umpire Training Clinic. Typically, Minors and Majors division games have both a Plate Umpire and a Field Umpire. What is the Refund Policy?

A full refund is available upon request prior to the close of registration and prior to Opening Day. After Opening Day, no refunds are allowed. Please contact the Treasurer using the information found on the Board Members page if you would like to request a refund.
